1/17/2024 0 Comments Softimage 3d 1999all objects, lights, textures, images, scenes are separated, not like max, which use a single file to store all the information of a scene, that's not flexible. One good thing about Maya and Softimage is their file structure (or should I say database). of course, i am not yet can be called "professional", so it's just some comments of what i think, and it could be wrong. and here are just some comments that i can think of after worked with both softwares. I think there are tasks at which it is better to work with MAX, and there are task where SI is better, and remember : A good artist with Povray is better than a beginner with Maya. I used MAX every day, and it crashed not very often (max 1 times a day). If your MAX is crashing, you maybe got a problem with your setup. The only thing i mentioned is that Max is the more "modern" software, because the basic concept is objekt oriented and modifier-stack based, what gives the artist more freedom to test different workflows and looks!! So why is the workflow of SI better in production ? You are right when u say that NURBS modelling in MAX is not so well implented, but i hope they improved it in r3 (the inovation cyclus at discreet(kinetix) is very short.where is sumatra :)). I NEVER said SI is a bad software or not as good as MAX. You're right i never worked with softimage at a professional level, BUT i know many artist who work with softimage ( and a few days i spent playing around with SI).
